Lotting Rules
What follows are the lotting rules for our LS:
Points: One point is given per run, including boss runs. Points are non-transferrable.
Ancient beastcoins: Coins are collected by an officer during the run and distributed evenly at the end of the run. Any remainder coins go to the highest /random rollers. Those receiving Homam or Nashira drops will not receive any coins for a Proto-Omega or Proto-Ultima run.
AF+1 items: AF+1 items are free lot if you have the job at 75. If no one lots an item, you may request to the LS to lot. AF+1 items do not cost anyone points. There is no restriction on the number of AF+1 items you may lot during a given run, but we ask you to try and be considerate and not go overboard lotting everything. If you don't really have a use for the item, please pass to someone who may need.
Dual-boxing: Our policy on dual-boxing requires that if you are playing two-characters, both characters must be making a serious contribution to the event. You will only receive an attendance point for one of the characters, not both. Ancient beastcoins are distributed to dual-boxed characters the same as all other players, since you paid your entrance fee. Dual-boxed characters are allowed to lot AF+1 items under the same rules as everyone else.
Homam/Nashira drops: Points are used to obtain Homam/Nashira drops. Prior to leaving Port Jeuno for a Proto fight, an LS officer will call out all attending members points. If you wish to bid an item, you are to come up with a list of the maximum amount of points you would be willing to pay for each item. You are allowed to bid on any of the items you wish, up to all five from a given boss. You can bid up to your point total on each item. The cost you are charged per item is one point more than the next closest bid. In the event there is only one bidder for an item, the winning bidder will only be charged 1 point. If an item goes unbid, it will be called free lot for those who can use, and the winning lotter will not be charged any points. If two bids are tied, both bidders will cast lots, and the winner will pay all of the points they bid.
Addendum 12-29-09: If duplicates of an item drop, for example two Homam Heads, and there are multiple bidders, the top two bidders will be charged 1 point over the third highest bid. If there are only two bidders in such a scenario, both players will pay only 1 point for the item.
Because you may have a winning bid for multiple items, but due to the cost only be able to afford one, you must also decide on a priority order for the pieces you are bidding. Thus, when an officer sends you a tell asking for your bids, please provide two pieces of information: The maximum you would be willing to pay for each item you are bidding, and the order in which you most want to receive the items if they drop.
Example:
Player A has a total of 20 points
Sample bid: Homam Legs 20, Hands 15, Body 15 in that order.
Player B has a total of 17 points
Sample bid: Homam Legs 17, Body 15, Hands 15 in that order.
Player C has a total of 11 points
Sample bid: Homam Feet 11, Hands 10 in that order
Say legs and hands dropped from Omega and these were the three highest bidders on each.
Homam legs would go to Player A for a cost of 17+1= 18 points, since they were highest bidder and had this as their top priority and the next highest bid was 17. That reduces Player A to 2 points, thus they no longer lead the bidding for hands. Player B now has the highest bid for hands, so they obtain them for 10+1= 11 points, since the next closest bid on hands was 10 points. Player B is reduced to 6 points. Player C now has 11 points, Player B has 6, and Player A has 2.
Why we do the bidding this way
We want this shell to be fair to all. We want to reward those who have the best attendance, but we also want to have new members be able to earn their way towards their desired drops in a reasonable amount of time. This lotting system ensures that those who want items that many others want will end up paying more points for them. This will drop their points down low and essentially put them towards the "back of the line". New members will not have to wait much longer than veteran members to obtain the same item. As evidenced by our boss drop history (in members only section), drop costs tend to stay relatively constant or drop with time. This system ensures that players will not amass hundreds of points and prevent new players from obtaining anything but the throwaway drops.
Why do bids in /tell?
If we did open bidding, people would bid back and forth up to the maximum they would be willing to pay anyways. It would produce a lot of text spam for the officers to sort through, and could potentially lead to drama. We do not announce the winners of the bids until the boss is defeated. This is not for secrecy issues, but more so because of the fact that you can bid multiple items and have multiple possible drop scenarios. We honestly do not know who will win what until it drops and we check bids and priorities. If you ever wish to see the bids for yourself, please simply ask and we can provide you with the Excel spreadsheet containing all bids for a given run.
